Microsoft Is Heading For Biggest Management Reshuffle In 5 Years

Bangalore: Microsoft, the software giant, is on its way to the biggest management reshuffle in 5 years, commencing tomorrow. The reshuffle is to increase the company’s ante in the field of mobile devices and web services, the current apple of enterprise’s eye, reports Reuters.
The re-organization will shift the positions of many top Microsoft executives and are intended to eliminate overlap within the 98,000 employee company, according to the sources close to the matter.
The reshuffle will create a new cloud computing and business-focused products unit headed by current Servers and Tools head Satya Nadella; Qi Lu, the Bing search head, could add Microsoft Office and other apps to his portfolio; Julie Larson-Green, who now co-heads Windows efforts, is to become the in-charge of devices that includes Surface tablet, Xbox game player, TV services and Music services ; and Windows Phone chief Terry Myerson is expected to take over Windows engineering and platforms, according to All Things D. There will be more management shuffles too that could be clear by tommorow.
Even while the wild speculations about the re-org are going viral in media, the Redmond based company did not comment.
Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer, announced in his annual letter to shareholders last October that Microsoft now sees itself as a "devices and services" company, rather than a software maker. Which clearly tells the software giant is in a hurry to focus more on the devices and services sector in wake of declined PC popularity.
The last big re-organization the company had was in July 2008 when Ballmer split Microsoft's Platforms & Services Division into three units - Windows, Online Services and Server and Tools. Nevertheless, one should wait till tomorrow for real turn of events.
